TWEET Are your TIRES with ALUMINUM RIMS continually losing air pressure? I've discovered that car tire rims corrode INSIDE, especially where the tire balancing wheel weights and built-in tire pressure sensing devices are mounted. The tire balance weights are held on by small metal clips, which cause the corrosion. THIS WOULD ALSO APPLY TO ALL TIRE RIMS. It took about 2 years for my first rim to corrode a lot (had to add air every 3 - 5 days), and a total of six years for my second rim to corrode. My magnesium rims have never corroded (at least to cause any air leaks). Have the mechanic remove the tire from the tire rim, and WIRE BRUSH any corrosion near the edge, where the tire touches the rim. I found this problem on my 2008 Toyota Corolla. So far, 2 of the 4 tires.
