Almost all software updates for Linux, that we receive,
may be uncompressed/untarred by one following commands -
ALSO HOLDS TRUE FOR GH - run them in ORDER 1, 2, & if all.logs needed, 3:

1)   tar -xzf *.tar.gz

2)   tar -xzf *.tgz

And then there is:

3)   gunzip  all*.gz          (if in var/log DIR)

or

     gunzip  w.x.y.*/var/log/all.log* 


( gzip -d   is equal to   gunzip )
