PREVENT water buildup in your TRASH BINS during a rain I got tired of rain water in my just emptied trash bins (the trash trucks leave the trash bin lid OPEN). The bottoms of trash bins are NOT flat - they have peaks and valleys When right-side up, the water will collect in the lowest places on the bottom of the trash bin. Turn the (empty) bin upside down - now the TALLEST/HIGHEST points in the bin bottom are where the water would collect. Drill about 10-20 holes (as big as your drill can handle, but not over 1/2" wide [just a recommendation]). If the holes are too small, water will have a hard time entering. The hole locations should be as close to the HIGHEST places you see, on the bottom of the bin. Spread them around the bin as there are pockets of water. Be careful to ensure you are NOT drilling into anything vital, such as a wheel,... Now very little water will ever collect in your trash bin. Obviously, you can not use your modified trash bin to hold uncontained liquids. http://www.woodsmall.com/PREVENT-water-buildup-in-your-TRASH-BINS-during-a-rain.txt
