I’m a fan of Ubiquiti so I took out the network box from Google, powered the fiber jack with a micro USB plug, then setup the security gateway (router) directly off of the fiber jack. From there it becomes like any other home network to setup how you please. I’ve read of some areas needing to mess with vlans and other things, but for me it was as simple as replacing the network box. Had this issue since day 1 with GF. Primarily happened on iOS devices for me. Had to toggle Wifi off and on on the device. Added a Google Mesh system and haven’t had an issue since. Its something with the NEtwork Box. I never got GF to fix it so it worked. I just lived with it. Your best bet is to just ditch the network box for your own router. Then see if the same issues are occurring with your WiFi. If everything works perfect, then you know what the problem is and have already addressed it. IF you dont want to ditch the GFNB, you can just get a nice wifi access point/router, plug it into the GFNB , set it up in bridge/ap mode, so you wont have double NAT issues, and ave great wifi. You would still use the GFNB for DHCP and port forwading, etc. This is what I do. Simple and easy. dmsgusals 3 yr. ago I tried many setting tweaks and tried to bypass the GFNB with failure. I might have done something wrong, but I was like oh well. The solution I found was using an access point. Bought Ubiquiti Unifi AP AC Pro access point and after some time of configuring it, I am pleased with it. No more stalling wifi and strong signal long range wifi. Also if your house is big, you could get multiple access points to extend the range too! If you are willing to spend some money (about $139) and some time setting things up, it will be worth it. The downside it... I want more Ubiquiti equipment now... Stellalucy12345 • 2 yr. ago I just moved into a new apartment and hooked up a GF self-install box, and all the lights are blue and solid but I cannot get any of my devices (phone, Roku) to connect to the internet. I have reset the box multiple times, called GF multiple times, and still nothing is happening. I can see my network in the WIFI options, when I enter the password, it'll say "authenticating" or "connecting", looks as if it will connect, then just drops it and keeps asking for my PW and this just happens over and over. When I call GF they literally cannot figure it out, they just take me through the same re-setting steps over and over. I am so frustrated! Any suggestions??? Do you have a Chromebook? If so, power it off and try to connect your other devices. I know it sounds weird, but some models interfere with the Google Fiber WiFi. Kept network box and added the Google Mesh system. Yes that’s the system. You cannot turn the NEtwork Box into Bridge Mode but it still works fine for most people. Just turn off the Wifi on the Network Box. Others might disagree it works fine but a basic system with no fancy networking works just fine with the NEtwork Box not in bridge mode.
